Membership, Method of Appointment, and RepresentationMembers of the Committee are veterinarians, preferably AVMA members, appointed by the organizations they represent. Alternate members are also designated by their organizations and are expected to attend in the member's absence. Members shall serve three-year terms. Annually the AVMA Executive Board appoints two representatives of the AVMA Board to attend meetings of the Committee. One representative each from the Councils of Veterinary Service, Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, and Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine is appointed by each Council and attends meetings of the Committee. One member (whenever possible, an AVMA member) from each of the following organizations: Academy of Rural Veterinarians, Academy of Veterinary Consultants, American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, American Association of Avian Pathologists, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, American Association of Corporate and Public Practice Veterinarians, American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners, American Association of Swine Veterinarians, American Sheep Industry Association, Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine, National Aquaculture Association, National Cattlemen's Beef Association, National Chicken Council, National Institute for Animal Agriculture, NMC, National Milk Producer's Federation, National Pork Board, National Turkey Federation, Society for Theriogenology, and United States Animal Health Association. ChairAt its April 1999 meeting, the AVMA Executive Board approved that beginning in July 1999 the Animal Agriculture Liaison Committee would elect its chair and vice-chair from among its membership, and two representatives from the AVMA Executive Board would be among the AALC members. MeetingsMeetings are held in Schaumberg, Illinois at the call of the chair. In June 1996, the Board approved a recommendation that the Committee be authorized to meet twice each calendar year, beginning in the fall of 1996. FundingThe AVMA fully reimburses members of the Executive Board, Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine, and Council on Veterinary Service, for expenses associated with attendance at the Committee meetings.
